To help you, here are five tips for storing clothing:
  1. Stuff newspaper in your boots to help them hold its shape. Do not store them all into one plastic bag. The soles and heels of boots can damage the other boots in there.
  2. Get a Temperature controlled Unit if available at your storage facility for some type of fabrics. For items made of leathers, suede, or furs, they need a consistent temperature to keep them from being ruined while in storage. A constant flux in temperature will cause these items to become cracked and damaged. Fur needs constant 50˚F temperatures and 50% humidity to maintain the proper moisture levels.
  3. Do not hang knit items. They can be misshaped and stretched beyond repair. Store knit items by folding them.
  4. If storing socks, do not keep them rolled. This will lose the elasticity. Instead, store them by the laying them flat then folding them in half.
  5. Keep clothes organized for easier transition. Store by type of clothes or by season and label your containers.  This makes it easier to sort your clothes quickly.
